FREE 'Fired Up!' Field Trip

Currently accepting registrations for the '09-10 School Year!

Yes, it's really FREE! Read on . . .

fire.gifWe are now offering a full-day field trip which focuses on the effects of fire -- or lack of fire -- in ponderosa pine forest ecosystems.  It's a great learning experience for your students and it addresses several Oregon State Benchmarks at the same time.  No student admission fee required, and transportation costs will be reimbursed.  Registration is required and space is limited!

What is included?

  • A pre-visit 'Teacher Toolkit' contains the materials needed to teach 3 lessons which introduce the concepts of the fire triangle, different kinds of fire, and succession of plants and wildlife in forest ecosystems.  Student 'Discovery Booklets' and pre and post-assessment tools are also included.
  • Transportation to and from the Museum on the day of the trip will be paid for (covered 100% within the Bend-LaPine School District - for out of district, there may be a limit).
  • A full day at The High Desert Museum, with a qualified naturalist who will lead your students through a variety of activities and field studies to expand and develop conceptual understanding.  We will even provide a snack!

What is NOT included?

  • Lunch and drinking water for your students on the day of the field trip.  You will need to make arrangements to bring this yourself.
  • Transportation costs which exceed $200. (unless Museum pre-approval is given)
  • Reimbursement scholarships are available from Oregon Forest Resources Institute for any forest-related field trip transportation costs

Requirements:

  • This trip is for 4th-6th grade classrooms only.
  • One chaperone for every 5 students is required, in addition to the classroom teacher.
